20 Weeks Pregnant & Cervical Shortening: Can I Still Reach Full Term?

Question
I am 20 weeks and have been on strict bedrest for 9 days, my cervix measures 1.5 and has stayed there for the past week. I have had contractions but they have not shortened my cervix more than the 1.5. Is it possible to still carry full term even though my cervix has started to shorten?

Answer
Heidi,
Yes, it is possible to carry until term. This is why you are on bed rest to hopefully get you a lot further in your pregnancy. We can't predict that you won't deliver early, but it sounds like you and your doctors are doing everything they can to maintain this pregnancy. Good luck to you!
