Understanding Recurrent Miscarriages: Causes & Investigations

Question
I am 32 and have 2 healthy sons.  I lost my 3rd baby at 19 weeks, my 4th at 17 weeks, and my most recent at 18 weeks while on low dose aspirin therapy.  The babies were all autopsied and found to be normal developmentally and chromasomally.  I have no anatomical problems or infections.  My blood tests were all normal including protein C and S deficiency, lupus anticoagulant, Factor V Leiden, anticardiolipin, homocysteine, and antithrombin III.  If we try to have another baby, is there any hope that heparin and aspirin could help me even though I have tested negative?  Do you have any other thoughts as to what could be causing my losses?

Thank you.

Rebecca

Answer
Hi Rebecca,

I can't explain why this is happenening to you, especially since you have had 2 healthy pregnancies.  Your doctor may want to try a combination of 3 drugs in your next pregnancy: Baby Aspirin, Synthroid (at a low dose), and Progesterone.  You would take the Progesterone until 16 weeks and continue the  other 2 drugs for the remainder of the pregnancy. It is an "old school" combination but it works in some cases.  I hope this helps.  Good luck!
