Light Bowel in Fetal Scan at 19 Weeks: Causes & Concerns
QuestionMy scan at nineteen weeks has shown my baby's bowel to be a rather light colour instead of dark. blood test are being done for blood infections and CF on both my partner and I. The hospital's counsellor has assured me that it could be nothing and most babies are born with no complications. How serious could this be? I am only 27 this will be my second child and my earlier scan for down syndrome came back with a low risk for D S.
AnswerHi Kylie,
I have to tell you that I'm really not too sure on this one. I have heard of being able to tell if the baby has gastroschesis or not (bowels outside of the stomach), but never light colored bowels. I would think it would be extremely objective because ultrasound is in black and white. It simply could be the position of the baby and the way the sound waves reflected the light. I'm sorry I couldn't help more. Just know that the hospital staff have probably seen this before and they wouldn't tell you that most babies are usually fine if that wasn't true. Good luck!
