What you are experiencing is completely normal. The dark brown spotting is what is known as "implantation bleeding". When the egg is fertilized it implants itself into the uterin lining. As a result, women can experience dark, sparatic spotting, and a light period like cramping.
This is completely normal, and usually subsides within a day or 2.
If you start to bleed heavily, and have intense cramping, then thats an indication of a problem. But otherwise, everything you are explaining is completely normal :)
