Miscarriage & Corpus Luteum Cyst: Seeking Insights on Cycle Recovery

Question
Hello Kristy,
Thank you in advance for you time and knowledge.
I went off the pill in Jan 06, became pregnant in May, but had a miscarriage at 6 weeks. I also had a very painful 4 inch corpus luteum cyst on my left ovary, which brought me to the ER. The cyst dissolved a few days later by itself, but I ended up loosing the pregnancy. The doctor said there was no link between the miscarriage and the cyst.
Since then I had only 2 cycles: July 18, and Sep 2. I'm charting my basal temperature, and know that I haven't ovulated during those cycles and until now. I also have pain on my left side. The same type of pain that brought me to the hospital, but not nearly that intense. Feels like a bad menstrual cramp, or a pulsing pain on my left side. I have 1 to 20 of those cramps a day for the last 5 months. Some days it's mild, some days it's moderate pain.
My ObGyn sent me to an ultrasound, but they didn't find anything, so she said the cyst had dissolved. But I still have that pulsing pain and cramps.
She doesn't want to do anything about me not getting pregnant for at least the next 6 months, because she says that if I got pregnant once on my own, it will probably happen again. I'm 26 y/o. Before going on the pill 7 years ago I had 28 day cycle.
Is there anything that can be done about the pain? Is the cyst related to me not ovulating and not having normal cycles? What's the point of waiting 6 months if I know there is a problem now?
Your help is very much appreciated.

Answer
Hi Lilac:)

You would think that your Doctor would have offered your a a laproscopy( a exploratory surgery) to take a peek at your ovary, and tubes to see if there was anything, that the ultrasound could have possible missed.

The type of pain your are indicating, does sound symptomatic to another cyst. The pain, and the irregular periods are both common signs of this.

I cant help but wonder if there is indeed another cyst, but perhaps its to small to see at this point. Beleive me, it does happen. Cysts, can often be mistaken for shadows. Infact, I had a cyst the size of a grapefruit, on my right ovary, that was not seen at all on ultrasounds. I had a c-section delivery, and it was then when the doctors had a visual on my ovaries that they saw this big mass. They removed  it, because it was huge, and they took my right ovary along with it.

If I were you, I think I would be getting a second opinion. Perhaps get another ultrasound with another dr, or even request a laproscopy, because of this pain, and irregular bleeding.

I dont see how waiting 6 months is going to better your situation. You are putting off a possible pregnancy, for a condition, your doctor says doesnt exist. It doesnt make sense.

I would definately, get a second opinion Lilac, and see what kind of diagnoses you get.

Hope this is of some help, and thanks for writing
