Post-Surgery Period Changes: Understanding Ovulation & Pregnancy Risk

Question
I'm writing to see if you can answer, or put ease to a question in my head. About a month ago I had surgery to remove a ruptured ovarian cyst and since then I have taken the pill everyday at the same time, but have still had sex, and I wondering if I miss my period would it more likely be due to surgery or could it more likely be pregnancy?

Answer
Hi Christina :)

Well, you are not susposed to have unprotected sex for atleast 1 month when starting the pill. It takes a full cycle of pills, for the contraceptive to become fullproof. So you certainly, can get pregnant.

However, If you miss your period, pregnancy cannot be ruled out. Surgery, will most definately cause a late, or absent period in some ladies. The stress, and physical trama can definately play a role in a late period.

Unfortuently Christina, I cannot give you a definate answer on this. If you were on the pill for 3 months, then had the surgery I would most definately say the surgery would be the cause if you missed your period. However, you if you had unprotected sex, anytime during the first month of taking the pill, you can definately become pregnant. If you have taken it over a month now ..again, I am more inclined to say the surgery would be the issue. I dont know if you have taken the full cycle, so as you can understand its difficult for me to determine. But hopefully my answer will give you insite :)

Hope this is of some help, and thanks for writing.
