QuestionI am about 10 weeks pregnant and have been suffering with constant cramping in my lower stomach for about a day and a half. I also have some lower back pain. I am not spotting, but am having rather contstant pain. Could I be haveing a miscarriage? Should I visit a doctor for this?
AnswerHi Sarah :)
Sounds to me like you could be suffering what is called Round Ligament pain.
As your uterus expands to accomodate your growing baby, the tendons and ligaments start to stretch. This can cause a sharp cramping or pull like sensation in the low abdominal area, and it can be felt in the back as well.
Often women complain more so of discomfort when getting out of chairs, or bed. It seems to be more those positions when the cramping occurs, and ofcourse if you are on your feet for some extended time.
It can be VERY uncomfortable. Myself, suffered this through both my pregnancies. And guess what!! It only gets more severe, the more pregnant you become :) At times, with myself if I moved the wrong way when getting out of chair or bed, it was excrutiating. Many times, I had to lay still for a minute or so, till the pain went away.
Keep in mind, that cramping is common even if your not having that strong pulling sensation. As I said, as your uterus and tendons stretch, you definatly will feel it.
If this sounds at all what you are suffering then there is absolutely no concern, because this is common in pregnancy.
However, if you begin to feel severe sharp cramps, and begin to bleed or pass clots, then that is indication of a problem, and medical treatment would be required immediatly.
I hope this answers your question, and thankyou for writing :)
