QuestionI am currently 39 weeks pregnant, 70%effaced, 3cm dialated, stationed at -2 and MISERABLE. I have had one episode of "early" labor where I had contractions 4 mins apart for approximately 6-8 hours, but stopped dialating at 2.5cm and was sent home empty-handed. I have been using Evening Primrose Oil vaginally since week 36, and per my doctor experimented with castor oil, only to be left on the pot all night. I've "fired" my husband because all the sex we were having has'nt worked either. I am aware that first pregnancies are known to go over (this is my first) however, at this point I don't care. I am miserable. Any encouraging words? I'm desperate for a silver lining!!! Thank you.
AnswerOh, Erin, Erin, Erin....
You have no idea how many women feel (or have felt) your misery. All I can tell you is that this WILL end. I promise it will. Babies tend to have a timeline of their own. These things happen when they are supposed to happen - which is not necessarily when we WANT them to happen.
One thing that you can take some comfort in is that you have made great progress already. You are 2/3 effaced and dilated! And the baby is already pretty low in your pelvis, which is why you are feeling so uncomfortable, I'm sure. The baby being so low will help to put pressure on the cervix and continue to thin it out and dilate it as you go about your daily activities. Which is MUCH better than waiting around for it to happen while lying in a hospital bed, believe me!
So...have faith that this baby is simply exerting it's independence early. Get used to it! :-)
I wish you all the best and I'll have a good thought for your arms to be filled as soon as fate will allow!
