Delayed Period After Birth Control: What to Expect at 48

Question
im 48 yrs. and stopped taking my birth control pills after taking them for 15 years.  I feel fine as far as mood swings and any hormonal issues, but have yet to get a period.  Is this normal?  I thought i would at least have some spotting.  thank you for your help.

Answer
You didn't say how long ago that you stopped taking the pill.  However, it's not unusual that it takes a while to get a period.  A period may not come until you ovulate, and many women don't ovulate much at age 48.  Since you feel fairly normal, you probably are not in menopause yet (the pill would have covered it up if you were).  I would just wait until you get a period, since most likely you will have one.  If you develop prolonged bleeding or intermittent spotting, that means that you didn't ovulate, and your uterine lining got too thick.  See your doctor if that happens.
