QuestionMe and my husband have finally decided to have a baby, unfortunately about a month and a half ago I had the dmpa birth control shot. even though the 12 weeks of the shot are not up, is there any way to reverse the shot? or if not, after the three months are up is it safe to take fertility pills in order to conceive?
AnswerDear Aniyah,
The DMPA shot, often known by the brand name Depo Provera, does tend to cause a delay in fertility for many women. For some women, fertility returns immediately. For others, it may take 6-18 months or longer for the body's hormone cycle to go back to normal. This is something that you will have to be determined after the three month period when the shot's effectiveness has expired. At that time, try by conceiving on your own - having sex every other day during days 11-21 of your cycle for the first 3-4 months. If you are not having any success, then you will need to consider getting an Ovulation Predictor Kit to determine whether you are ovulating. If you are ovulating, the kit will show that and help you to know exactly when to have sex to improve your chances of conception. As long as you are ovulating normally, fertility drugs would not be a necessity.
Unfortunately, there is no antidote for the DMPA injection - no way to reverse its effects once given. You might try cleansing techniques to detox or eliminate the synthetic hormone from where it is stored in your body's tissues: drink lots of water every day, eat lots of fresh raw organic vegetables, drink raw vegetable juice, sweat in a steam room or sauna, get lots of exercise and fresh air. That's all you can really do for now.
I hope this information has helped you and answered your questions. I wish you well.
