Understanding Mid-Cycle Bleeding & Discharge: Causes & What to Do

Question
Hi,I am 25 years old. For about the past year I have been experiencing a mid cycle period. This coincides with beginning an active sex life with a new partner(which is only my 2nd). I know he doesn't have any STDs nor I. I have been on the same birth control medicine since I was 16. The bleeding seems to have increased a bit over the year. I don't have any pain, odor or itching. It is mostly a brown discharge with mucus like stuff and some bleeding. It only lasts a few days and always occurs about the same time each month between my normal menstruations. I even tried taking my BC straight through for several months to skip my periods, but I still would have this mid-cycle bleeding??? So now I have gone back to having my periods every month to see if there was a change, but No. My normal periods when I don't skip them have remained the same throughout. After some research I have come to assume this bleeding is occurring during ovulation and can be related to hormonal changes. Is there anything more serious it could be or should I request that my doctor put me on a different birth control? Any info would help. Thank You!

Answer
Dear Melissa,

Thank you for writing me keeping me in mind I am not a doctor so I would like to suggest that you go see your doctor about this as well. Now it may be since you are sexually active and you may be having "rough sex" which can cause bleeding at anytime. I do not think changing your BC is the answer but then again go to your doctor and ask. I do not have any more information other than my opinion and I hope I have helped in some small way.

God bless
