Understanding Chronic PID: Symptoms, Treatment, and Recovery

Question
I am almost 23 years old and feel like the past year of my life has been nothing but a living nightmare. This all started last February when I was having some menstrual problems and went to have a physical. Before I knew it I was having a procedure done so the doctor could look around. He called the next day and told me I had chronic PID and gave me allot of really strong antibiotics. When I did my research on PID it freaked me out even more b/c I had never had an STD. I have made my partner of 5 years get tested and treated 3 times even though he has always come up clean. The PID ended up destroying my appendix, which was taking out 3 weeks later. I have been on my cycle non-stop since march and have tried everything from hormones to BC pills and shots. Nothing has stopped the pain or bleeding. They have told me from the start that I will never be able to conceive a child due to the fact that both ends of my tubes are clubbed. Now that I feel like I am at the end of my rope and they want to try a dep-lupron shot. There is a lot more to my story but my basic question to you is, is it worth it to continue trying all these small things and always getting disappointed when a hysterectomy would cure it all in one shot. Please help me make some sense of all of this!!! I have left a few things out, so if you need to ask me some questions before you can come up with an answer please let me know. I will tell you anything that you think would help!!! Also, they have never said that I endometreosis, they just say that the PID is what caused the scar tissue. While that may be true, dont you think they need to look around again and see where the scar tissue has grown now? I feel like they are playing with me and I dont know how much more of this I can take.

Answer
Hi Britney,

I just did a little research on PID since I wasn't really educated on this issue. From what I read, the most common ways to get PID is from STDs,not the only ways. PID is caused by bacterial infection. I read that if you have a certain type of bacteria and use a doushe, PID is common also.

But please, keep in mind that MANY women with Endo are mistakenly diagnosed with PID before they get a correct diagnosis. I would deffinately see another doctor for another opinion. Find a doctor in your area that is well versed in Endo and make an appointment.

I did not read anywhere that Luporn is used as a treatment for PID, nor did I read that a Hyst cures PID. If you have read this anywhere, please write back and give me the links where you found this info. Lupron puts your body into a "fake" menapause which is why it is commonly used for Endo. And a hyst does NOT cure Endo.

If you feel that your doctor is not paying enough attention to your problems...find another doctor. There are many doctors out there who do not know enough about these issues and pretty much do nothing but make an educated guess as to what is wrong. That's why so many misdiagnoses.

I really want to stress that you get Endo ruled out before you even consider a life altering treatment such as a hyst. Remember, something like this is totally irrversable and causes many problems.

One thing you may want to try is Natural Progesterone Cream. The cream relieves pain from Endo and helps with many menapause symptoms. It can not hurt to try it. If you do try the cream, please visit www.endo-resolved.com to read about it. There is a lot of info you will need to know before buying and using the cream.

If you want children, do not give up on the idea. Weird things happen all the time. It's not immpossible and there are many fertility experts out there.

I hope I was of some help. Please let me know if you have any other questions. And PLEASE, rule out and Endo diagnosis before considering somethingdrastic like a hysterectomy.

Sincerely,

Angie
