Endometriosis and Pregnancy: Understanding a Complex Case
QuestionMy 20 year old daughter was diagnosed with endometriosis at age 14; in addition, she has a bicorunate (sp?) uterus and had an internal septum removed at age 17. The cell growth has been so extensive that after her first laproscopic surgery, 10 months later she had 75 percent regrowth. She has endometrial cells growing on her ureters, ovaries, uterus, colon (culdesac region) and her spine. She spent the better part of her 16th year in bed and in a wheel chair. She has been on Lupron, and continuous Nuvaring (9weeks on 1 off) for 2-3 years. Though she was college bound, this disease has brought her life to a stand still. She was unable to attend school and had to take GED instead of graduating. Doc's are now talking Hysterectomy. I'm seeking many opinions to help her make a decision. We've heard child birth can help and often cure Endo. She desperately wants the same opportunity as many other women to have a child, though she did not plan to at this age. Do you have any information about this? Any other similar experiences with endometriosis of this magnitude? Any info would be great! Thanks for your time and consideration!

AnswerJennifer,
I am so sorry for your daughter. She certainly has suffered for many years. I don't feel like I am qualified to answer this question, but I do know that having a baby just to lessen her symptoms would be not the most ethical thing to do. Is she healthy enough to care for a baby?
I think she should get a second or third opinion from a doctor and not from a stranger on the Internet. Sorry, I don't mean to be harsh, but this is very serious for your daughter and should be handled be the most skilled physicians. Good luck to you both.
