Possible Pregnancy: Understanding Periods and Intercourse Timing

Question
Dear Doctor,
I am 24 and my girlfriend is 23. We had sex on 4th of march and we used Durex, before intercourse. While intercourse, she got her period and started bleeding. So I withdrawn and I did not ejaculated even till that time. After that I ejaculated over her breasts.
Her period lasted for 5 days till 4th march.
Next time we had sex on 7th April. Till that time she had not got her period. We used Durex again before intercourse and this time I ejaculated inside her (in condom only) and withdrawn. All semen was in condom only on withdrawal.

Our problem is, she hasn't got her period till now (18th April) and its been more than 1 month and 14 days. She told that her periods have been irregular earlier too and max was 14 days.

Can she be pregnant like this? Or should we go for pregnancy test? If she gets positive for pregnancy, will abortion harm her for having baby in future?

Please help us soon sir.

Regards,
Vishal

Answer
Hello Vishal from India,

It sounds like she has irregular menstrual cycles so certainly the late period could be normal for her and not a pregnancy.  Since you used precautions, it is a low likelihood that she could be pregnant.  However, to be sure, she should have a pregnancy test, and if it is negative, the doctor should give her a medication to start her period.  If she is pregnant and you choose to have an abortion, it will not harm her fertility unless it is not done well and correctly.
