Pregnancy Test Accuracy & Symptoms: What to Expect at 6 Weeks

Question
Hello Amy, I am a sixteen year old high school student who is going to college next year {very likely}, and I would like a professional opinion on my crisis.  My girlfriend and I have been together for five and a half months, and we have not had intercourse.  We have enjoyed some sexual things like fingering and dry humping, but my penis has never entered her vagina or ejaculated inside her.  Despite this, she has not had her period for six and a half weeks and is showing numerous signs of pregnancy. {exaustion, and recently, nausea}  Just today we went to a free clinic and got tested, and got a negative result.  My girlfriend has had some major family problems {almost being beaten and being thrown out of her home for starters}, and we concluded that was the cause for it all.  The day before we got tested, she claimed she was feeling menstral cramps again as well.  Nontheless, I am still very worried, as I have no expertise in this field of knowledge.  Kindly give me your feedback of all this ASAP, as I have difficulty sleeping due to my worry.
Thank you, Matthew Powers

Answer
Matthew,

If they tested your girlfriend by a blood test, then it is extremely accurate.  Sometimes, urine pregnancy tests can read a false negative.  If you haven't ejaculated inside of her, then chances are pretty slim that she is pregnant, however, there is a chance she could be if any semen might have gotten around her vaginal area.  300,000 sperm are at the tip of the penis before ejaculation occurs.  It is unlikely that she is pregnant based on what you have told me (especially with the negative test).  The only way to be sure is to have a blood test drawn.  Signs of stress, signs of impending menstruation, and signs of pregnancy can mimic eachother.  Good luck and I hope this helps!
