Question
  Hi Dr. Kandeel,
I'm 32y/o, I had 3 occurences of miscarriage. Last 2006 I had 2 within the year, according to our ob-gyn it's blighted ovum then came my 3rd that's last Sept.30,2008 and it's going 4mos.with faint heartbeat 85bpm before it was declared for another failed pregnancy. I was advised to undergo to a series of test through and my lab test show I'm positive to ANA and LAT. What is my chances on these please? Thank you in advance for your advice.

Best regards,
Kat

Answer
Dear Katrin

I think you are suffering from a case known as antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). You have a very good chance provided you plan the timing of your pregnancy and you have no other factor which may prevent pregnancy. Usually the treatment is empirical but response rate is high. One of the major problems which occur with APS is having inflammation and degeneration of the placental blood vessles which are responsible for the baby's nutrition. Careful and early antenatal care can prevent such occurence and even if it happens, it can deal with complications early.

Good Luck
