Chest Fluttering & Palpitations in Early Pregnancy: Causes & Concerns
QuestionHi there, My LMP is 13/05/06 (with a 38 day cycle). This is my 2nd pregnancy, with the first resulting in miscarriage early this year at 7 weeks. 2 weeks ago I started getting a flutter in my chest (which I assume are palpitations) which last for 1-2 seconds and which make me feel like I miss a breath (or get winded). Would this be related to being pregnant in any way? Never had symptoms like this before now. Thanks heaps.
AnswerThe palpitations may be related to the pregnancy or it can be exclusive of the pregnancy.. If these sensations continue, you really should be evaluated by your obstetrician or a cardiologist right away. It is common to have some palpitations during pregnancy as the uterus starts to exert pressure on the diaphram, but it is better to check it out. The next time it occurs, go to the ER and have it checked out (EKG).
