Osteoporosis & Pregnancy: Risks, Management & Expert Advice

Question
I'm 35, no kids, and a bone density test indicated osteoporosis.  What are the risks involved in pregnancy, delivery and breastfeeding for a woman with low bone density?  What sort of specialist could assess my risk and monitor  things if I choose to get pregnant?

Answer
There are no special risks to you or the baby by becoming pregnant while suffering from osteoporosis. Osteoporosis does not interfere with the pregnancy or with the baby and you just have to be careful so that you do not fall and cause injury to your hip or spine. Are you on Fosamax or Actinol? These are category C medications and can be used during pregnancy if needed.
