Infertility & Single Kidney: Understanding Cervical Issues & Conception
QuestionHi Suzette,
I really really need your help. I'm 29,I've been married for 5 years and been trying to conceive for about 8 months. Before that I went for a check up and it revealed that I have only one kidney (left) from birth. With this only kidney it made my cervix positioned to the right (this is what my doctor said)and its shape is unusual (doctor mentioned that usually women Cervix has the end part like a tube down to vagina a little bit, and mine is just cut off at the end). After been seeing the same doctor for this past months and still not conceived, my doctor kinda tell me that I might not be able to conceive due to the position of my cervix, but she was not so sure. Here is some more info about myself: my period is between 30 to 35 days (never missed) and always paint during discharge, I do ovulation test on every day 14 and i got positive and I usually had sex that night (and of course before and after, usually the other night). my question are: does one kidney impact my reproductive health? can I get pregnant naturally given the fact that my Cervix is abnormal in position and shape? If I can't naturally, is there anyway that I can?
AnswerI can understand your frustrations. I have never heard of having one idney interferring with pregnancy. If however, your uterus is tilted, it may be difficult for the sperm to find their way. Their are actually home IUI (Interuterine insemination) kits you can buy. I think they run around $100. Basically you would be placing your husbands sperm into your uterus. It might help you out. Good luck!
