Multiple C-Sections: Safety and Risks - What You Need to Know
QuestionI have three children who all were delivered by cesarean. Now I'm pregnant with my forth. How many cesarean sections is it safe to have.
AnswerDear Nikki,
There is no set number of safe C-sections. Obviously, doctors don't want women who have to have C-sections to go crazy with reproducing, but as far as an actual number, per se, there is none.
Usually when your doctor sees that your uterus is getting thin or difficult to suture efficiently, he will share that with you and recommend that another pregnancy poses too high a risk. I would suggest that you speak with your doctor - or the doctor who performed your last C-section - to find out the condition of your uterus at that time. He/she will have the most accurate information as to your specific case and the safety of a repeat C-section and/or particular precautions that should be taken this time around.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well and a Merry Christmas.
