Endometriosis Pain: Causes, Diagnosis & Affordable Options

Question
Hi I am 31 years old and have had 3 kids. Over a year ago I started having pain around my right ovary. I've been to the doctor and he's suspects Endo, but at the moment I can't afford to have a Lap. done. The pain has started bothering me everyday and my hip aches. Does Endo cause pain all the time or just around time for your period? Also is there any other tests for cancer other than a pap. My pap was OK, but I'm just trying to research different options for this pain. It's really a dull sickening ache, not a sharp pain. Thanks for your time. Rose

Answer
Endometriosis is the presence of uterine tissue outside the uterus. At the time of your period, this tissue bleeds (as though it was inside your uterus) and anytime blood touches the abdominal wall, it produces pain.  Pain is not seen in Cancer of the uterus, cervix, or ovaries. A PAP smear is the only test we have to diagnose cancer of the cervix. Cancer of the uterus is marked by dark bleeding other than at the time of the period. Ovarian cancer can be diagnosed by palpating the ovaries and getting a sonogram. If you have pain all the time in your abdomen, I would suggest a sonogram to assess your abdominal organs. I really doubt that you have any form of cancer. Don't worry. If it is dull ache, try ibuprofen (600mg every 4 hours).
