Short Cervix at 22 Weeks: Risks, Flying & Management

Question
Hi,

I am a physical education teacher and i am currently 22 weeks pregnant and at my last dr visit my cervix measured at 2.2. I am going to only start working 4 days a week from next week. I try and rest during my lesson, by lying down with my feet up. We will be flying to the States soon for our summer holidays, will i be able to fly? I am taking progesterone for a week now and have to continue for another week.

Please advise

Regards
Kim

The major problem with short cervix is the occurrence of preterm labor and delivery. At 22 weeks it is hard to say whether you will go through preterm labor or not even if your cervix is currently short. Serial evaluation by ultrasound is necessary to observe whether the trend will continue and shortening will increase by time. Therefore, the decision to fly is yours but you should be aware that there is some degree of risk for preterm delivery that cannot be quantified.

Good Luck
