Oligohydramnios: Understanding Causes, Diagnosis, and Management

Question
I was diagnosed with oligohydramnios at 14 wk 6 days. My doctor only told me to increase my fluid intake to 4 quarts per day.  My recent ultrasound at 19 weeks revealed that I have 4 pockets with only 1.9 each of fluid.  I was kept in the hospital for two days, and consumed 3 liters of IVF.  I have other problems such as spotting since 5wks of my pregnancy and heavy bleeding at least thrice a month due to a subchorionic hematoma. I also started having contractions since April.  My fetal measurements according to my doc are within normal.  My EDD based on LMP is Sep. 29, 2009, but based on u/s, October 8.

My doctor is keeping me on bedrest since my 5weeks, and multivitamins with amino acids and increased fluid and wants to see me in a month.  I have read a lot about oligohyramnios in the 2nd trismester and they are not very promising.  I am wondering if there are important questions I should ask my doctor but don't know them.  Are there other tests that I should undergo to help my case?

Thank you very much..
Marie

Answer
Dear marie,

There is nothing much that you can do now other than take adequate rest and maintain fluid balance. Resting reduces cramps and spotting. Please follow the present advice as you seem to be under a good hand.
