Question
my wfie is 26 weeks pregnant and has blood in her urine severe. she has been having alot of back pains and some belly aches. we have been to her doctor 2 times and they are not for sure what is causing it. she has been checked for stones, uti, and other infections all pretty much negative just a high white blood cell count. if you know anything that could cause this please let me know.                      sincerly, Tim

Answer
Dear Tim

Your wife have to be sure first that this blood is coming from her urethra and is not a vaginal bleeding that may occur accidentaly during urination and be mistaken for bloody urine.

The most importnat cause for bloody urine is renal stone and this needs a consultation with a urologist, but for the other possibility, it can be preterm labor warning signs or placental abruption (separation from the uterine wall). I advise as an initial step a pelvic ultrasound to confirm that the pregnancy is healthy and to measure the cervical canal length to exclude preterm labor. If everything is OK., then consult a urologist.

Good luck to your wife.
