Abdominal Cramps in Pregnancy: Causes & Relief at 27 Weeks

Question
Hello.
i tried to post another question to your answer but i dont think it accepted it, if it did i appologize for repeating myself.

You said that cramping is likely not related to shortened cervix (2.8-2.9cm).  What do you think causes them?
It is driving me crazy since i keep concentrating of any slight discomfort.
Is it just the uterine fibers stretching?
Also, what is ok to take to relieve hard stool and avoid straining?

Thank you so much!

Answer
Is this your first pregnancy? I am asking this because I have had many woman who complain of cramping but in practice actually have a feeling of heaviness over the lower abdo and stretch which they interpret as cramps. Are you also doing it, because I think that you may be.

The reason for the sensation of heaviness is primarily the growing uterus. As the uterus grows, it puts pressure on the other pelvic organs, and also stretches the ligaments. This is what causes the cramp like sensation.

To avoid straining follow the following tips:

1. Take at least five portions of fruits and Green Vegetables

2. Drink eight glasses of water each day.

3. Maintain a proper toilet routine

4. You can take laxatives like liquid paraffin or cremaffin, but they should only be used as a stop gap arrangement.

5. Be physically active.
