QuestionI am 20 weeks pregnant, 5 days ago i had a bit of brownish pink discharge. I went to my doctor right away, he examined me, and a little more came out. He put me on bed rest for a week. I was only aloud to get up to go to my ultrasound which was a few days ago. The ultrasound lady told me my cervix was closed because i asked her but i don't think that she would have told me if she found any other problem. My doctor didn't give me any possible explanation. So now I've been doing my own research on the interment for the past few days trying to get some answers. I had to more blood or brown discharge after i left the doctors office, I'm wondering if this could be the beginning of a miscarriage or if it could just be "old blood".
AnswerHi Crystal.
It's really worrying when you start to bleed, but it's a good sign that the blood is brown as this indicates old blood.
If there were any visible complications then the nurse would have told you, so please try not to worry. As long as the baby is developing properly and theres a good, strong heartbeat you can relax. At this stage of your pregnancy, any problems would be easier to spot.
Lots of women bleed during pregnancy and it's often nothing to worry about, but if you start to experience any cramping and/or fresh blood then seek medical attention straight away. For now, put your feet up and rest.
Kindest Regards
