Understanding Clots During a Miscarriage: What to Expect

Hi Sarah,

I was diagnosed this morning with an incomplete miscarriage.  I was given medication to help the process move along.  A few hours after taking the medication I began to pass a clot about every 10 minutes or so for a couple of hours.  I am just wondering if this is normal?

Hi Sarah
          This is completely normal. The clots are simply leftover tissue. You will probably experience these for a couple of days, they should get smaller in size and gradually fade out into just bleeding.
You may find that you get a lot of cramping, again this is normal & will settle.

If you experience an episode of sudden & very heavy, painful bleeding and/or you are having to change your sanitary towel/napkin every 60/90mins for at least 3hrs then you need to seek urgent medical attention.
This sort of bleeding is exceptionally heavy & you may need some medical supervision.
