Early Pregnancy Bleeding & Pain: What Could It Mean?

Question
I am in the first few weeks of my pregnancu and I am experiencing abnormal pains in my tummy. And I have been bleeding for 2 days and having a brown discharge frequently, I am woundering if there is any problem with me pregnancy? please let me know asap

Answer
Dear Amy,
Bleeding and discharge in the first few weeks of pregnancy can either be from implantation, which is the when the placenta starts attaching to the wall of the uterus (which is OK), or it can be a sign that the pregnancy is not ok, and may be miscarrying. I suggest that you go to your midwife to be examined, and possibly for a blood test, which will be tell you what's going on.
But if the pain is very severe, and to one side or the other, or you have heavy bleeding (soaking a pad an hour), then you should seek emergency care immediately.
Having been in your shoes, I wish you the very best of luck, and I hope all is OK.
Sincerely,
Sheva
