Understanding A1c Levels vs. Glucose Meter Readings: A Quick Reference

Question
The HgA1c test range is 4.3 to 5.9 and above.  How does this scale relate or translate to the 120 type readings from the glucose meter where I prick my finger and place a drop of blood on the meter tab-stick.

Is there a chart like a numerical times table for quick reference?  Thank you.  stan

Answer
Hi Stan,
Firstly, I would like to apologise for the time it has taken me to answer you - I have been embroiled in a research project that I'm afraid has distracted me from all else.
Now, to your question. The HgA1c and the finger prick tests are quite different and as such the data from one does not directly translate to the other.
The HgA1c test looks at how well the blood glucose levels have been controlled over a period of time - usually the past 4 weeks. The finger prick test looks at the blood glucose levels for that moment in time.
I hope this has been helpful to you - if you have further questions please do not hesitate to contact me again.
Best wishes,
Sam
