Understanding Elevated WBC Counts: CO Poisoning & Surgery

Question
hello, I will make this as short as possible. My wbc was 13.5 on 4/30 & 19.8 on 5/7/08. Now, on 4/6/08 I had carbon monoxide poisioning, on 5/6/08 I had a scheduled surgery. My questions is would the wbc count elevate due to having the surgery, and can it also be due to the co2 poisioning? Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Answer
Hi Kelly, I'd be glad to try and answer your question.  Yes, I do believe that your WBC count could be elevated because of CO poisoning and your surgery.  Any trauma to the body can cause a WBC count to be a little higher than normal.  I would assume that your doctor did followup testing, though, to rule out any kind of infection.  Maybe you should have your WBC count checked after you feel healthy.
