Understanding Red Cell Mass: What It Is and Its Role in Blood Tests

Hi,
I asked you a question some time ago that you helped me with and now I have another. What is the test for Red Cell Mass?  Is it one of the results that show up when a blood test is done for CBC? Is it related to any of the other things that come up with CBC like MCV or something. I appreciate your help.

Hi Loli, I'm glad I could help you in the past, and I will try to help you again.  The assessment of anemia and polycythemia depend foremost upon a reliable and direct determination of red cell mass (also called red cell volume).   Yes, it's similar to a CBC (complete blood count) but it's more specific to the RBC (red blood cell) count.
