Understanding Abnormal Urinalysis Results: Low Creatinine & Protein/Creatinine Ratio
QuestionI had a test done on my blood work and urinalysis. My urinalysis test came back flagged abnormal at the specific gravity NCAL. It then said at the bottom abnormal protein/creatinine ration NCAL. This then said not calculated due to low creatinine. Should I be concerned about this. It affected why I was being tested, but no one said anything more about it. Should I see a physician regarding these results?
AnswerHi Lisa, I'd be glad to try and answer your question. A low urine creatinine is not normally a problem, as long as your other lab results were okay (such as your blood creatinine). The reason it said not calculated was because your level was so low that it wasn't accurately measured by the machine used to run your test. Because there was no number, there was no way that the protein/creatinine ratio could be calculated. If your doctor's not worried, I wouldn't worry. If your urine creatinine was high, then that could be a early indicator of kidney disease/damage.
