Infertility Concerns: Trying to Conceive After Abortion at 16
QuestionHi I am a 21 year old female and have been trying to conceive with my boyfriend for a little over a year without success. I had an abortion at 11 weeks when I was 16. I am now worried that i am not able to conceive again now we are ready for a child. I don't smoke (neither does my boyfriend) and don't drink very often. My boyfriend often works away so we probably miss ovulation a few times and we haven't been relying on timing of ovulation to have sex and we have just been having it when we want to. I was wondering if there may be a chance that I am infertile and am wondering what to do? Thank you.
AnswerIf you've been trying for over a year, you can see your doctor who can do several tests on you and your boyfriend's semen to see if there are any fertility issues. You should try to time your intercourse during ovulation, around day 14 of each cycle, in order to increase your chances. It is difficult to conceive if you don't have intercourse around the right time of each cycle, which is only a day or two each month. Your ob/gyn can tell you if a fertility evaluation is warranted at this stage.
