QuestionHi Dr. Ramirez,
I am 4w1d pregnant today after IUI earlier this month. My beta level on Tues was 92. Thurs it only went up to 130. Today it was 191. My RE says most likely I will miscarry. I must say that my draw on tues was at a different facility that the ones yesterday and today, and yesterdays draw was done 2 hours earlier than the one on Tues (nobody told me prior tha it needed to be at the same time). Does this sound hopeless to you? Do these numbers ever rally, or is yesterdays draw a sure sign that I am going to miscarry?
Thank you,
Polly

AnswerHello Polly,
Unfortunately, your Beta's are not rising as they should. We expect BHCG's to double every other day. Although yours are still rising, they are not rising at that rate. For example, with a first BHCG of 92, the second should have been 184 and the third 368. If we accept the second one, because it was in a different facility, then today's should have been 260. You see, it is still low.
Despite these Beta's, I would not necessarily give up hope yet. I think your doctor is just preparing you for the worst.
