QuestionDear Dr. Edward Joseph Ramirez,
I am 30 year old and had regular periods and ovulation but last month my doctor asked me to take siphene tablet for ovary growth from Day 3 for 5 days and then Duphaston Tablet from Day 18 for 10 and the doctor also monitored the follicle growth by pelvic ultrasound and on Day 9 when the growth of Right side ovary was 22mm she injected injection for rupture but I didn't conceive and in place of it I got cyst, which i never had for the last 18 years (regular period on every Day 26) but anyways after 15 days i got my normal periods without taking any tablets. And then I went again on Day 9 for pelvic undersound and found out that cyst has gone of its own and that I have Follicles in Left Ovary F1 - 26.5, F2 - 6.5 and Right Ovary F1 8.0, F2 - 6.5. And Endometrial thickness measures : 7.0 mm. Now my question is:-
1. I have taken siphene tablet from day 4 for 04 days and after that no other tablet (i.e. duphaston or anything), and i generally ovulate on Day 12 or 13. In that case, whether my follicle may have grown bigger than normal onces, and whether it will not rupture or picked up for fertilization in the fallopin tube. Whether is there any hope for me to conceive this time, with such a big follicle.
2. If it does not rupture, whether i will have cyst.
3. Last time the cyst was functional cyst which changed into hameragic cyst and went itself through my periods without taking any tablet. Whether this time also If cyst comes, I don't have to take any tablet. Please help.
Regards,
Sarika
AnswerHello,
It sounds like you may or may not of responded to the ovulation medication, because if you have regular cycles, you would have formed and ovulated a follicle normally. In any case, with the fertility medication, one of the potential side effects is the formation of a cyst. In addition, after a follicle ovulates, it re-expands into a corpus luteum cyst that resolves on its own.
It sounds like in this second cycle, the follicle that is the largest may be too big. Generally, if the follicle grows and does not ovulate by 24 mms, the egg within it overmatures and is not fertile. The other follicles are too small to ovulate.
In terms of getting pregnant, you are still young and your fertility rates will be high until you are 35 years old, so don't give up hope. Although this treatment method may not work for you, there are others to do after so you have a ways to go yet. In addition, the treatment method you are using, ovulation induction with timed intercourse, is a very natural method and your body still has to go through its natural process to get pregnant. Most women will take several months to get pregnant naturally (6-12 months), so you will still need to keep trying.
I hope this answers your questions.
