QuestionThis would be my third IUI , I conceived in the third attempt, however miscarried within 6 weeks. I would be undergoing an iui now, however on the Day - 12 the follicle size is just 13 mm. Do I have any chances of having a successful IUI. The IUI is scheduled on Day 17. I have a regular cycle and am 37 years old.
AnswerHello Val from India,
IUI's are done when the follicle reaches ovulatory size, NOT scheduled in advance. Your doctor needs to keep following you with the ultrasound to determine when it is ready to ovulate and HCG injection is given. That is usually when the follicle is 18-24 mms. I don't see any reason why the 13 mm follicle won't keep growing so that the IUI can be done. In terms of whether this will work or not, you obviously had a successful IUI once before (became pregnant) so it surely can happen again. However, at your age, the chances of a pregnancy with IUI is only 5% per month due to the affect of age on the eggs. That is probably what led to the miscarriage. I would give yourself up to four more tries and if that does not work, move to IVF.
Good Luck,
