QuestionHi Edward,
I am from India and this question is related to my wife. She underwent a treatment and tracking of follicle rupture via USG.She was given Ovutrig(5000mg) on the 12th day when the follicle size showed 21mm in right ovary. On 14th day one follicle registered a size of 28mm and the other 21 mm. On 16th day it was observed that none of the 2 follicles had burst and the one with 28mm on previous day shrunk to 25mm. Can you please comment if this is an abnormality and if there is a remedy to the same.
Thanks,
SM.
AnswerHello SM from India,
It is too bad that an ultrasound was not done on the 13th day since ovulation could have occurred and the follicles just re-expanded by D#14. For that reason, once cannot say with any surety that ovulation did not occur. However, based on what you describe, it is possible that the dosage of HCG (Ovutrig) was inadequate and so ovulation did not occur. The usual dose is 10,000 units although I know some clinics only use 5000 units. There is a higher risk of inadequate HCG stimulation at the 5000 unit dose.
