Accidental Menopur Injection During Insemination Cycle: Potential Risks?

Question
Hello. I am a 35 yr old woman in the middle of my first insemination cycle. I was to take 150 mg clomid day 3-7, and a shot of menopur on day 9. The nurse accidentally gave me my shot on day 7 and I was told to still take it again on day 9. The Dr said it should be fine. I go for my ultrasound on day 12 to see if we can proceed with the insemination a few days later. My question is, is there a potential for problems as a result of the accidental menopur shot that I was not made aware of?

Answer
Hello,

The only problem is that you may have too many ovulatory sized follicles from the extra HMG shot.  So, in the ultrasound on cycle day # 12, if there are more than 3 follicles at 16 mm or greater, then you will have to cancel your cycle or risk a super multiple pregnancy such as quadruplets or more.  Other than that, there is no other harm done.
