Endometriosis, PCOS, and Irregular Periods: What to Do Next

Question
QUESTION: hi there

I recently turned 18 and at 17 i was diagnosed with stage 2 endometriosis and pelvic adhesion disease. i took only 1 depo shot in January and stopped but since October 08 my periods have been irregular and getting worse. this month it was almost 2 months late, I've developed skin tags, ovary area hurts constantly, and i feel a huge lump in my pelvic region. i had an ultrasound in July 21 but it was normal. my ob/gyn has dropped me and i cant have another ob/gyn because no one in my town will take my insurance. so my questions to you are:

Is there a relation to pcos and endo?
Is it possible to have both endo and pcos?

thank you so much for answering and have a good weekend.

ANSWER: Hello,

Endometriosis and PCOD are two different diseases and are not related.  Both, however, can separately lead to reproductive /infertility problems.  Because they are both progressive and can lead to worst problems, you should be under treatment for both.  For the endometriosis, you should be on something to inhibit or slow down the process such as Depo provera or a high progesterone/low estrogen birth control pill.  For the PCOD, you should be on something to regulate your hormones and downregulate the testosterone levels which are elevated in PCOD.  We use the birth control pill for this.  The best one for PCOD is Yasmin.

QUESTION: thank you for answering. i cant take estrogen due to blood clots so is there anything else that would be good for pcos?

Answer
Hi again,

If you cannot take estrogen, then you should go back on the Depo provera and stay on that until you are ready to try for pregnancy.  I know that is not what you probably wanted to hear, but that would be the best solution for both problems at this time.
