PCOS & Birth Control: Understanding Pregnancy Risk When Skipping Pills

Question
I have been taking Birth Control for 2 months now because of my diagnoses of PCOS. Before getting birht control I wouldnt have a cycle for months at a time. I went out of town and forgot to bring my birth control, so I didnt take it for 5 days, however my cycle came on the 27th day and I was wondering if me not taking it those 5 days will increase my chances of getting pregnant.

Answer
Hello Keisha,

Of course taking the birth control pills will prevent you from getting pregnant so if you want to try for pregnancy, you can't take them.  It is possible that you had a rebound ovulation in this cycle, and that may continue, so if you are interested in pregnancy, you should try for it.  If the cycles become irregular, then you will need to see a fertility specialist to undergo ovulation induction to get your ovaries to ovulate.
