Delayed Period: What to Do Before IUI? - Fertility Advice

Question
What can I do to make my period come? It's 7 days late, I'm not pregnant.
I need it to come so I can start taking FSH for an IUI
I am writing from Australia.

Answer
Hello Lisa from Australia,

I'm a little worried that your doctor has not done this, especially if you are going on a potent medication like FSH in conjunction with an IUI cycle.  Any fertility specialist knows what to do in this situation.

The general protocol is to do a pregnancy test (blood) and if that is negative, proceed with Provera for five days.  The menses should start within 7 days of taking the last tablet.  If the period does not come in that period, another pregnancy test should be done and if negative, I give birth control pills 1 tablet three times a day for 7 days.  The period will then start.
