Questionhi
We were trying for a baby for 6 months and since nothing happened we decided to have check up. I am 36, fit and healthy and the tests showed I am fine.
My husband is 37, fit and healthy, never smoke or drinks(had full check up, blood and urine - all perfect)
However, the doctor told us that my husband's morphology is not good.
The volume, motility and sperm count are all just perfect but the morphology - abnormal forms are more than 70%(under 70% is normal)thus it is associated with decreased fertility.
any possibility to improve poor morphology as everything else is fine?
or is IV the only option?
Ana
AnswerHello Ana from Australia,
When the morphology is abnormal, that means that something at the sperm production level is not functioning correctly. In general, if the morphology is less than 30% then IVF with ICSI is the only viable option. The semen analysis should be rechecked, however, to confirm if this has not already been done. You certainly could try something like IUI (insemination), but the chances will be very low. If we take your age into consideration, which already gives you a reduced pregnancy rate, the combination of the two problems would make the chances very very low. I would not recommend it. With those two factors, I would recommend IVF as the treatment of choice.
