Understanding Vaginal Dryness and Irregular Periods After Ovarian Surgery

Question
QUESTION: Hi,
My wife and I used to have great love making but recently we
faced problem of her not getting wet enough which makes it
troublesome and painful for both of us during sex.
Earlier in life (5-6 years ago) she had a dermoid cyst in
one of her ovary which resulted in removal of one ovary.
Recently she has also started facing a delay in her
mensuration cycle. We consulted a senior obgyn and she said
everything is fine (somehow weird because she never did an
ultra sound).
From past 3-4 months she has started a healthy daily workout
at gym and have started taking Omega 3, Vitamin D3, calcium,
super B complex and vitamin c.
Can this medication be responsible for not getting wet
enough and delay in periods..or is it something more
worrying concerned with her dermoid cyst history.
thanks a lot for your advice
We got married 10 months ago and she is 30 years of age.
Also her vaginal dryness goes after we start intercourse but it's not like
what it was 10 months back. Sometime it's difficult to have sex.

ANSWER: Hello Kartikeya Roy from the U.S.,

The current "dryness" has nothing to do with the previous Dermoid cyst (tumor).  Dermoids usually do not cause any other symptoms besides pain or a fullness feeling.

It is possible that your wife has some sort of hormonal disorder going on, especially in light of the fact that her menses are off.  You don't describe exactly how they are off other than "delayed" but that could mean a lot of things.

I think that if this is a concern of your wife's as well, she needs to revisit her gynecologist and tell her exactly what the problem is i.e. that she feels very dry with intercourse.  It is possible that it is a hormonal problem and that needs to be checked.  Often there is a problem with estrogen output, the hormone responsible for vaginal lubrication.  None of the supplements she is taking will affect that.

In the meantime, you can purchase a lubricant from any pharmacy that may help with the dryness while awaiting the evaluation.

QUESTION: Thank You for the guidance. (I am writing from USA)
For example:
In July her periods were off by 12 days and then it was
normal. In August it was delayed by one week and was less
and spotty. In September and October they were heavy but
delayed by 8 days. And its July from when we are
experiencing vaginal dryness.
Can this be related to one ovary removed or early menopause.
We are worried about it.

ANSWER: Hello Again,

This shows an irregular menstrual cycle, and as mentioned earlier, shows that the ovaries are not functioning correctly.  That will throw off your wife's hormones which could lead to inadequate estrogen levels.  The treatment of choice would be to correct the cycles by either using a fertility medication, if she is trying for pregnancy, or other hormonal treatment such as a moderate (not low dose because it will not have adequate estrogen) dose birth control pill.

Answer
Hello Again,

There is nothing "natural" that I can recommend.  You'll have to see or talk with a Naturopath to see what natural treatments are available, but keep in mind that these formulations are not and have not been clinically tested so may not work.

You are still asking the same question regarding what to do, and I have already answered that in the previous answers.  The only question left now is what you want to do?
