Ovulation After D&C: What to Expect & When to Worry

Question
I have a question regarding ovulation after miscarriage/d and c.  I had a d and c and got my period back many weeks after, which gave me hope we can start ttc again.  However,  I got my period finally on cd38(used to be always 28 days).  I am wondering if this has really created problems with my hormones, which may prevent me from ovulating hence get pregnant.  I also have used OPKs before my miscarriage and it never did work for me, but ended up pregnant.  So because my surge was not strong enough is this a sign that my hormones are off?  I'm starting to wonder if I need to go to a reproductive endocrinologist.  I have heard about HCG shots used for people who dont ovulate because I don't know if I am even ovulating. This is very frustrating.  Please help!!

Answer
Hello Terry from the U.S.,

After a miscarriage, it can take a little while for the ovaries to re-set and function normally.  Once the first menses starts, it should then function normally.  If it does not then that is an indication that the ovaries are not working correctly.  The D%26C would not be the reason for this.  In that case, if you are desirous of pregnancy, then it would be appropriate for you to see a fertility specialist/reproductive endocrinologist to help.
