IVF with Egg Donor After Menopause: Is It Possible?

Hi Sarah, Thank you for the good work you do. I am a 49yr old woman and my husband is 51 years old. We have been together for 19yrs and i have never been pregnant though i have a son who i had before i met him. my diagnosis is that my tubes are blocked and my husband has a low sperm count. we did ivf once in America (i am american) but was unsuccessful. My period stopped in december 2008 which means i am in menopause. My question is can i still benefit from ivf via egg donor and get pregnant?. Also what is the cost. Please help. Thank you.

It's possibe that you could get pregnant with IVF with an egg donor.  This would increase your chances, given your age.  Your doctor would need to discuss this with you, to see whether you would be able to do an IVF cycle if you're in menopause.  The cost varies from clinic to clinic but is usually around $10,000 to $15,000 per cycle.  You would also have to pay for the eggs, which are an extra cost.  You could find out the exact prices by visiting the website of the clinic in the state you're living in.  These are prices in the US.  I'm not sure what they are in other countries.  Good luck.
