Understanding Ovulation Tests & hCG After Miscarriage - Expert Advice

Question
I wonder if you could offer some advice please.  I sadly had a miscarriage and passed in hospital yesterday. We want to try again asap, today I did an ovulation test and it was a strong positive, could this be the hcg hormone? I also took a pregnancy test which is still positive.

Kind regards

Tara

Answer
Hello Tara from the U.K.,

You are correct that the OPK is NOT correct.  You still have bHCG on board and that will take 1-3 weeks for the bHCG to decline back to zero.  From that point, the ovaries will reset and you may then start an ovulatory cycle.  You may not see a period again until the ovary resets.  My recommendation, since there will be no way to tell what is going on in the interim, is to wait for that period to start.  Then you will know that you can start monitoring for ovulation again to attempt pregnancy.
