TVS Scan in Early Pregnancy: Safety & First Trimester Tests

Question
hello again!

Doctor i would be glad if you could tell me,
(1)is it harmful for the fetus if we do a TVS scan in the 7th week to check the heart beat?

(2) and what are the tests that should be done in the first trimester and in how many weeks it should be done? (including the blood tests)

thank you.

Answer
Hello Natasha from Sri Lanka,

No, ultrasound is not harmful to the fetus and is commonly used.  It is often used at 7-8 weeks to determine viability (heartbeat) and dating (size).

I can't answer the second question because the standard of care (tests done) is very dependent on the country's standards and many other factors.  That is a question you will need to ask your Obstetrician.  Some tests that are recommended in the U.S. are not necessarily done in other countries.

Good Luck,
