Understanding PPROM Risk in Subsequent Pregnancies: A Personal Story

Question
I had a very healthy pregnancy with my daughter but did deliver at 35 weeks b/c of PPROM.  They found no cause (no infection, cervix wasn't dialating, etc).  I went to my doctor 2 days prior stating that I felt that she had dropped and that I felt "pressure."  He examined me and found no reason to thnik she would arrive early...2 days later, my   water broke.  Now I am pregnant again and can't help wonder what my chances are of having another PPROM?  Does my previous PPROM make me at higher risk to have it happen again or are the chances unlikely?  (1 birth, 2 m/c prior to birth.  My girls will be 20 months apart)

Answer
Dear Patty

20-30% of PROM cases occur for unknown reason and it is not necessary for PROM to recur in a subsequent peregnancy. However, there are some factors you should be aware of. For example, If you have any urinary tract infections, vaginal or cervical infections, you should seek aggressive treatment. Avoid self diagnosis of intestinal flu or round ligament syndrome as these may be early signs for PROM or preterm labor.

My advise is to seek consultation should u feel anything unusual.

Good Luck
