Ovarian Drilling for PCOS: Can a Second Procedure Improve Fertility?

Question
Hi doctor ,I had an ovarian drilling 7y ago , it was very benifecial we were able to conceive three months after the procedure , when my son turned 2 we conceived my daughter. We really want to have a third child we tried naturally for tow  years with no success , had medicated cycles but couldn't get pregnant , my husband had a semen analysis that came back fine , my question is can i have a second ovarian drilling at 35 years old in order to improuve my chances as i don't want to take a lot of hormones   .
Thank you
Yours faithfully

Answer
Hello Emma from the U.K.,

PCOD can be treated medically (by medication) in the proper hands and surgery is not necessarily required.  However, ovarian drilling can work to help the ovaries function normally and lead to ovulation (which is the problem with PCOD), so if you are convinced that it is the treatment that you want, then there is no reason why you should not discuss this with your Physician.  I am not a big believer in ovarian drilling, as it is an invasive procedure, and I can treat medically.  But that is going to depend on the Physician that you choose.

Good Luck,
