QuestionI am 16 years old i know that is very young but i have already been having sexual intrcourses with my boyfriend, for less than a year. I have barely noticed that i have a small pain on my left side. My mother had a a cyst taken out not to long ago she is 37, and do you think that it could be hereditary? Or just ovulation pain? My period comes every month but its always a few days or weeks later than the month before. My mother thinks that it is also because i have had lower back problems since i was young. There are many possible reasons you may be experiencing pain on the left side, with ovulation pains being the most common. At 16, your body is still growing and adjusting, so to speak, so having a period that is a few days late here and there is completely normal for your age.
Ovarian cysts are actually quite common, even for girls your age. Most time, women are not even aware that we have them until they cause complications. So, a cyst could also be what is causing the discomfort.
I would suggest going to the doctor. More than likely it is nothing, but for your peace of mind, it is worth the visit.
Also, I would like to remind you to use reliable birth control since you are having sex. As I am sure you are aware, unsafe sex can result in pregnancy and STD's.
